Free things in Brisbane

Brisbane is a beautiful city, and it’s easy to spend a lot of money going out for coffee or lunch. But there are plenty of free things in Brisbane you can do too! If you’re looking to save some cash, here are 6 fun activities that will keep your wallet happy as well as your mind and body.  If you have a group of you book a bus with us and we can take care of all your transport needs.

  1. Stroll around a farmer’s market  The farmers’ markets are a popular way to purchase fresh produce in Brisbane. Almost every suburb has one on one every weekend, but many people have their favourite and go there for the best selection of meat or flowers at better prices than other stores offer them during weekdays. We recommend checking out either West End Markets, Jan Powers Powerhouse Markets or any City Centre location.
  2. Enjoy some live music around the city   Brisbane has Australia’s largest free live music program. Every week you’ll find different touring and local artists playing around the city in places like the Queen Street Mall, Post Office Square and South Bank.
  3. Go for a swim at the Streets Beach  Imagine a place where the water is so clear, you can see your reflection and all of Brisbane’s skyscrapers in it. That would be like stepping into another world or dimension with just one step! Check out Streets Beach at South Bank – The massive beach-style lagoon offers plenty for tourists to do: sunbathing on towels near boats; swimming laps next door at Boat Pool Aquatics centre (a huge pool) or letting the little ones splash about while they wait their turn to run through the fun fountains.
  4. Visit the Botanic Gardens  Ever since the Botanic Gardens were established in 1876, they have been a popular Brisbane landmark. With its lush green lawns decorated with flowers and art pieces from around the world, it’s no wonder that this park has won Australia’s best garden award 5 years running!
  5. Dive into a great book at the Library  The Brisbane City Library is a great place to read and explore. With 500 thousand books, there are plenty of options for you! You can either go borrow one from the library or just spend some time reading through their magazine section which has titles like Field Guide Magazine and Popular Mechanics Australia. Explore this amazing building at 220 Queen Street
  6. Spend some time at GOMA  You’ll want to spend at least a few hours visiting the Gallery for Modern Art (GOMA) on Southbank. This gallery houses modern and contemporary art from Australia as well as around the world! A great culture boost.  Not only will you get an inside look into the artist’s processes, but there are also great views over the river from this stunning building so make sure you spend some time here. Entry is free, but they rely on donations to keep the exhibitions running.
